The Coalition of Unemployed University and Diploma Graduate Teachers (CUUDGRAT) has issued a stern petition to the Government of Ghana, expressing deep concern and frustration over the recent recruitment exercise conducted by the Ghana Education Service (GES). The coalition alleges that the exercise, which exclusively considered 2022 graduates from public colleges of education, unfairly excluded university graduates and diploma holders, thereby perpetuating inequality and discrimination.

In a press release dated July 8, 2024, CUUDGRAT highlighted the qualifications and preparedness of university graduates to serve as educators in the country's educational system. The coalition criticized the GES's decision as unjust and a violation of constitutional rights guaranteed under Article 25(1), which ensures equal access to opportunities in the public sector for all citizens.

The coalition’s president, Felix Dagba, emphasized the urgency of addressing this issue, stating, "We urge the government to take swift and decisive action to address this issue and uphold the principles of equality and fairness that our constitution stands for. The time for action is now, and we will not rest until justice is served."

The petition further underscored the disparity in treatment between students from colleges of education and those from universities. While college students receive allowances, university students are left to finance their education independently or resort to student loans with high-interest rates.

CUUDGRAT has called on the government to rectify this injustice by ensuring that university graduates and diploma holders who have successfully passed their licensure exams are also recruited. Failure to address these demands, the coalition warns, will lead to mass demonstrations and protests.

In a pointed reminder to the government, the coalition noted the proximity of the upcoming general elections, suggesting that the government’s actions will significantly influence the electorate's decisions.
